music: "Don't You Want to Share the Guilt"-Kate Nash

One of my friends tagged me in one of those "interesting facts about you" things on  facebook.....and I can't think of 16 things that I'd want everyone on facebook to see, so I'm just gonna let it all out here. No one uses this anymore, really, anyway.

Here it goes... )

music: "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"-Across the Universe OST

So....I'm planning on changing one of my majors. Yay. No more dramatic lit. I mean, I love theatre and all, but right now I don't think I'm going to end up doing anything with it. I'm changing it to history. So..history and journalism. And I'm thinking of doing something with politics or something like that after I graduate. Maybe cover a political beat for a paper or something like that. I don't know. I would major it political science, but at NYU all it is is game theory, which, while fairly easy, is also INCREDIBLY boring.

Totally weird.....

Oct. 26th, 2008 | 11:35 pm
mood: giddy giddy

So. Middle school. I had one really good friend in 8th grade- Emma. She moved to CA right before the school year began. None of my friends that I  had had since 6th grade really liked her. She shopped at Hot Topic and listened to Linkin Park and System of a Down. But she was a really awesome friend. We chatted online every night. She was supportive-not that my other friends weren't... but she actually seemed genuine. She wanted to set me up with a friend of hers. When I considered trying out for the school musical, she egged me on.... So I decided to audition the night before and she tried to help me prepare during lunch. I can't sing, and didn't even make callbacks.
I moved. We went to high school. She didn't seem to like hers very much. We sent each other e-mail or chatted with each other about once a week. We eventually lost touch with each other.
This summer I was cleaning my room and found my old middle school yearbooks. Apparently, everyone in England shares her name, so I sent a message to a girl who's profile photo looked similar....Wasn't her.
I was talking to one of my suitemates and her mother about being an Army brat today, and I decided to look her up on facebook.
Guess what?
I found her.
Guess what else?
She goes to Mary Washington.
Seriously.
You have NO idea how much I freaked out when I found her.

Palin.....

Sep. 4th, 2008 | 10:36 am

I would just like to say that Alaska has a population of about 680,000. NYC has a population of about 8.5 million. Guiliani and Bloomberg have some sort of forgiegn affairs experience already.... I know Bloomberg's an independent now, and Guiliani is annoying.... but, seriously....they both would have been slightly better picks than this random Palin chick.... who scares me...a lot.....

Random update

music: "Mamma Mia"- Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia OST

Hola.
So...summer's, like, halfway over.

I really enjoy working at the movie theater. Weird, I know.... But most of the people there are great. *shrug*
Oh, and this is the greatest thing ever. Yes, a webcomic about movie theater employees....:P

If anyone has the chance to rent The Last of Shelia, watch it. It is amazing....

Saw Wall-E recently. Loved it. It was absolutely adorable. "Presto," the short film before that, is fantastic as well.
I walked theaters the day after the movie was released, and completely geeked out when I heard music from Hello, Dolly.

Mamma Mia's soundtrack leaked a few days ago. Pierce Brosnan isn't the greatest singer...but Meryl Streep isn't bad.

And I MUST see [title of show].  I'm almost tempted to take a bus up one day to see a matinee and then take a bus back that night.

I'm reading Marc Acito's Attack of the Theater People, which I love. I just finished his first book, How I Paid for College: A novel of Sex, Friendship, and Musical Theater. A little unrealistic, but fantastic.

Eh, I turn 20 in a week. Bree returns from Europe on the 13th, and my mom leaves for Slovakia on the 15th, so everyone will be home that day.

That's pretty much it. I'm still working. My family goes to Disney World in August. Christina's family is arriving our last day there...so.... we'll be hanging out then, I guess.

"Mr. Sondheim, I wrote a hat where there never was a hat, a Latin hat at that

Jun. 15th, 2008 | 11:04 pm

Yay, Tonys! I'm a little ticked that Sunday and Xanadu didn't get any awards, but besides that...I really wasn't upset about anything. I'm glad that Lin-Manuel Miranda won best score. Loved the Rent performance....if only because I loved the audience's reactions. Patti LuPone was clapping along, Daniel Evans sang along, and Lin-Manuel Miranda gave a standing ovation.
Aaaaaaand....speaking of Patti...LOVED her acceptance speech.

I'm in Columbus right now. I'll be back tomorrow evening. We had a picnic memorial thing for my grandfather...'cause it's what he wanted instead of a funeral. ALL of the cousins were here...so....yeah, that was...interesting?

Erm....I'm looking for a second job right now. I've got a job at the movie theater... and I enjoy working there...I just don't get paid, like, anything. So I'll probably end up working at McDonald's again, as well.

I saw Get Smart yesterday at Quantico. I liked it. It wasn't perfect, but it was funny.

Eh....that's really it.

So. I'm back in Stafford.

Tony nominees came out today
http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=27843
Tony committee didn't nominate Young Frankenstein or Little Mermaid for best musical....
Sondheim's getting a lifetime achievement award.... Maybe he'll actually show up for the awards this year... :)

And now...off to tend to my foot. I managed to sort of fall down the stairs....and now my foot hurts. Yay for me being a major klutz.....

Apparently SOMEONE'S not a Good Samaritan

May. 8th, 2008 | 03:29 am

So, my roommate found a wallet on the street a few days ago. When she told me, my first response was "Why don't you give it to the police?" Her response? "Oh, well, I sent her a facebook message..."
Today she told me that the wallet itself is worth $250. Expensive for a wallet....I told her to give it to the police if she doesn't get a response before she leaves for the summer. Her response? "Well, I think I'm going to keep it. I mean, what can the police do that I can't?"
....
Seriously?  I would have checked the wallet to see if there was a phone number in it. If not, I would have handed  it over to the police. That way, if she reports if missing....well, she can find it easily. And who doesn't report a $250 wallet missing?

Anyway, I contacted the girl on facebook myself. There are a lot of girls with that name, but only one who really fits the bill. When my roommate suggested that she keep the wallet, I asked her to look through it again to see it there was any contact info. She found a GWU card, which apparently she didn't notice earlier. For all I know, she contacted the wrong person. I gave her my roommate's number and told her to reply soon, since she's leaving town next  month. Hopefully she'll respond.

I dunno, I guess I just think it's really selfish of my roommate to do that....whatever....

In random other news, I'm planning on going up to NYC in July to see [title of show] on Broadway, as I'm paranoid it will pull a Glory Days (opened yesterday....and closed yesterday..). Granted, it'll likely get better reviews. But..still....
Anyone want to tag along?

Edit: Wallet girl replied to my facebook message. Apparently she never got one from Hannah. She told me she called her and that Hannah sounded "shocked and surprised." Ah well, she's getting her wallet back tomorrow. And I can feel good abput myself for about five minutes,,,,:)

...I guess it was bound to happen eventually...

Apr. 14th, 2008 | 01:30 am

My grandfather passed away today. And I've actually been letting my emotions out. Which is a good thing, I guess.

So....I tried not to cry when my roommate got home, but that didn't work. So as soon as she came over and sat down next to me I started sobbing....and one of my other suitemates heard me, so she came in to be with me, too. Anyway, she offered to get me a glass of water....and I told her I had a water bottle in the fridge. I guess I should have been more specific, as she poured me "water" from another plastic water bottle....and I took a big first gulp..of vodka... so..now I've got a horrible headache....but she meant well...so....yeah....

So... Monday....

Song list:

Broadway Babies: West Side Story medley
Jenna Russell: What More Do I Need (Saturday Night), I Remember (Evening Primrose), Losing My Mind (Follies)
- she then had to run to Roundabout's benefit.
Broadway Babies: Beautiful Girls (Follies)
Leenya Rideout: On the Steps of the Palace (Into The Woods)
John Doyle then played a game with the audience, stating the first name of an actress who's performed Sondheim's work and having us call out the last name....Sadly, everyone knew the answers... :)
Broadway Babies: Pretty Women (Sweeney Todd)/Pretty Lady (Pacific Overtures)
Pamela Myers: Another Hundred People (Company), Not a Day Goes By (Merrily We Roll Along)
Heather Laws: (Not) Getting Married Today (Company) -
She sang all three parts...so...when she got to "Today is for Amy..." the audience just lost it. She got some of the loudest applause of the night. John Doyle also told the audience about how she delivered her son (?) during tech and was ready to go when the show opened.
Debra Monk: Can That Boy Foxtrot? (cut from Follies),- After she finished, Doyle turned to the audience and said "I think we just got a master class on how to perform that song."
The Gun Song (Assassins), I'm Still Here (Follies)
Barbara Walsh: The Ladies Who Lunch (Company), Send in the Clowns (A Little Night Music)
Donna McKechnie: In Buddy's Eyes (Follies), Some People (Gypsy) -
Her "Some People" was absolutely fantastic...
Pamela Myers and Donna McKechnie: You Could Drive a Person Crazy (Company) -
It was absolutely hilarious. They were obviously having a great time and created a ton of laughter.
Raúl Esparza: Being Alive (Company) -
He literally ran on stage from the audience. He adjusted the microphone and made a comment about how being an "honorary lady" for the night was a little scary. He apologized in advance, saying that he hadn't performed since the show closed. Amazing, as always. Doyle, Laws, and Rideout read all of the spoken parts.
Broadway Babies: Broadway Baby (Follies)
Angela Lansbury: The Worst Pies in London and Not While I'm Around (Sweeney Todd) -
She was amazing. She told us that she didn't know if she'd remember all of the words to "Worst Pies in London," and told us to fill in anything she missed. She didn't miss anything and received a standing ovation. She got emotional at the end of "Not While I'm Around"...but so did, like, the entire audience.

Doyle then ended the concert. He mentioned, in passing, that he would be working with Sondheim "in a few months" on another show....So he pretty much confirmed that Bounce will be playing at the Public this fall.....Another reason to get an internship there...

All of the actresses (and Raul) then came on stage to take a final bow. They gave flowers to all of the actresses, and realized that they had one left- they hadn't given one to Raul. He looked absolutely shocked when he received flowers and gave a little mock-curtsey. Then Lansbury went off-stage and Doyle introduced Sondheim. Lansbury then pulled him onstage. He looked so shy!! Anyway, the theater had about 1037 Sondheim fans...so...you can imagine how the audience reacted. He sort of nodded in acknowledgment and then waved his hand to silent the audience....which, of course, stopped. He then thanked Doyle for taking the time to do this while Doyle's current show is in previews. And then.....he quickly left the stage with Lansbury.

So then I left the theater, and I originally wasn't going to do the whole stage door thing, since I figured no one would stop since there was a dinner with the actresses afterwards. Anyway, the guy I was with decided that he wanted to stalk Angela Lansbury, so we decided to wait. After a few minutes the door opened and Sondheim poked his head out. About a minute later he walked out very quickly, waved in acknowledgment, and walked away. The, like, five college students who could afford to go (we met three other kids there) just kind of gaped. Garrett, the guy I was with, seemed to think it was rude of him not to stop for autographs. Eh, the theater just let out...so...there are over a thousand of his fans within, like, one block. I felt so terrible for him when some random woman started following him.

Anyway, I ended up talking to Doyle for a little bit. He's so down to earth and easy to talk to... which is really funny because I still kinda can't talk to Raul Esparza...at all.

Garrett apparently thought it would be a good idea to mention how upset he was about Curtains closing to Debra Monk, who didn't say much to him but "Oh, we're so sad too..." But....I mean....I dunno...I wouldn't have mentioned it, I guess.

EEEEEK!

Apr. 7th, 2008 | 10:18 pm

So...I totally was standing by the stagedoor when Sondheim came out. :)
I didn't say anything to him, and he just walked out really quickly without a word......
But...still.....

Countdown until possibly seeing Sondheim: 18 hr.

Apr. 7th, 2008 | 12:56 am

So...I'm going to the Ladies who Sing Sondheim event...
LuPone and Benanti dropped out today...
But Angela Lansbury, Debra Monk, Pamela Myers, and Jenna Russell will still be there. :)
And so will a "handfull" of other ladies and possibly a "gentleman". I'm thinking Daniel Evans. He could perform "Move On" w/ Jenna Russell.
As for the other surprise guests? Donna Murphy, maybe? I dunno if Bernadette Peters would show up.
Hmm....

EDIT: OMFGYAY. Raul Esparza is the "mystery gentleman"....... YAAAAAY!!!!

Dear Broadway...

Apr. 4th, 2008 | 02:25 am

I don't think I've been excited about theatre, like, ever. Plays have been great this year- August:Osage County, The Homecoming, Is He Dead? Original musicals- In the Heights (Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer/lyricist/star is... 27?), Glory Days (Composers are 23), Passing Strange (not my cup of tea, but innovative, nonetheless). Revivals- Sunday, Gypsy, South Pacific.
And [title of show] (show about 2 guys writing a musical about 2 guys writing a musical) is opening at the Lyceum this summer!!!! YAY!!!

And in non-theatre news, after talking about it for, well, years, I'm finally actually going to see a shrink!! YAY! And my mother knows...which means my entire extended family knows by now. See, I had a major panic attack this weekend and when I called home, my mother told me to go to the wellness center to see if I could get some sort of medication, since she apparently wanted to put me on Paxil (an antidepressant) over spring break but apparently never got around to it.
